My 1800 wish list
This is one of two ever-evolving lists I host here on Classic1800: It’s basically a “wish list” announcing some of the items I realize I need (want) to complete my 1800 restoration. If you have any of these items and would like to help the cause, let me know, and perhaps we can work something out (For what it’s worth, I also have the “spare parts” list of things I can offer others on their journey as well).
With that said, I present, in no particular order, my list of current wishes:
Copy of Bill Webb’s 1988 book, Swedish Iron, aka Volvo 1800 (Of course)Driver’s side door stop (to keep door from slamming into shins every time I get out of the car)
A recommendation and/or actual GOOD lower-dash pad cover/replacement.
Working Smiths clock (for ‘71 1800E)
Triangular nosebadge

I saw some “buy-it-now” new door stops on Ebay yesterday.

Did you find the book…Swedish Iron by Bill Webb…probably, since you have it crossed out! I just bought one at a yard sale and am laughing at the 2 on Amazon; one @ 275 and the other 315…and that’s $$$$

I actually managed to check out the book from one of the two public libraries in North America that apparently has it. Check out here for details. But that’s a heckuva nice find at a yard sale! Congratulations! (And nw I’m curious… Where do you live that has such amaing yard sales?)

Hi Guys, I have a 1971 P1800 2 ltr V6 in need of restoration. The engines ok but the body work and leather interior needs some work. I can’t do any work on it - do you know anyone who would like to buy a brand new project?

I have a 1970 Volvo 1800E, which I picked up new from the Gothenburg factory for my father. I am looking for a triangular Volvo bonnet badge and an 1800E badge for the boot. Grateful for any advice on there to find these.

Gosh, this thriead has been going a long time…so much water under the bridge! I sold that book on eBay with an offer of $150….go figure, I would have taken $50! But that’s my living now so it all helps pay the mortgage. Here in So Cal we have yard sales all year…some pretty good! Good thrift stores too!

I’m not sure what to advise, Jodeen. Do you have a picture of your 1800? Is it left- or right-hand drive. Bests, Paul

Paul, you said “Grateful for any advice on there to find these” So I asked what you were talking about! I don’t have a Volvo….I had the RARE Volvo book that I sold for $150 on eBay and bought for 25 cents at a yard sale! That’s the closest I’ve been to owning a Volvo!

when i attach the + termanial to the battery of my 19 71 volvo P1800 E, the coil gets red hot and then explodes sending a black tar like substance from inside the coil over the wind screen, this has happened to the last two coils.
(and i dont get a spark).
any ideas ?
Thanks Paul

I had the same problem and discovered that the positive and negative terminals on my battery had been reversed. Sounds bloody stupid, but that was the problem, until I got a new battery and proper wiring. No problems since then

Hey everyone. I’m helping a friend with a 1967 1800S. I would like to make it safer by swapping in front disc brakes and a dual circuit master cylinder from a later year. Anyone else done this? Anyone have the parts for sale to do the swap? Thanks

Julia, I have been using Tony Barrett at Braydon Motors, who knows P1800s inside and out. He gave my 1970 1800 to a fellow named Andrew last year ago who did a great base metal restoration for about 5000 pounds, and it needed a lot of welding and removal of rotten metal. Andrew also kept a photo journal of the work, which he gave me at the end of the process. You can contact Tony at 0208 525 7283 and I think his email address is amazon@dircon.co.uk
Give me a call if you need any further information.
