Second Sunday: Try, try again…

Fuel gasket still leaking. Gas gauge still broken. Removed sender again and drained slight amount of fuel from float again, and remelted float to seal it. Re-installed gasket and sender, soldering pickup wire directly to sender. Gas gauge now works! By midnight, gasket is showing signs of leak yet again.

One week later: Saturday’s progress

Had exhaust pipe welded/patched today. Muffler shop says it won’t hold; header pipe is rusted through, and should be replaced. Car runs much quieter now. In fact, now other aromas and sounds are evident:

Gas tank fumes are terrible.
Rattle beneath right-front section is loud.

Monday- Friday progress (First week of ownership)

On Monday, patched exhaust pipe (temporary/muffler quick-fix kit).
Got car cover just in time for sudden ice/snow storm (Thurs-Fri).
Fuse issues becoming evident (loose fuses).
Noticed cracked/rusted front bumper mounts this week (explains unattached front bumper).

Early impressions

Installed temporary rear-view mirror.
Gas fumes seem worse.
Bondo work evident
Bought radio antenna (not installed yet)

Good shape (body)
Engine appears to leak oil
Windshield cracked, door lock broken
Needs paint
Interior in great shape

No evident rust

Rear-view mirror (interior) missing
Seats not positioned right
Speedo/gauges dead
Exhaust fumes fill passsenger compartment
Trunk compartment filled with gas fumes
